About Tamar Taekwondo

Mark Iles is the founder and Master Instructor of the Tamar Schools. The name derives from HMS Tamar in Hong Kong, where Mark opened two schools, teaching there for a total of 3 years before returning to the UK and handing it over completely to Grandmaster Kwak Jae Young, now World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) 9th Dan and President of the Australian Taekwondo Association.  Whilst teaching in HMS Tamar Mark met, trained with and became great friends with Grandmaster Christopher Chong, WTF 7th Dan. GM Chong was, at that time, Hong Kong National Coach. Tamar Taekwondo is now affiliated to Chong's Taekwondo under GM Chong, now living in Canada and at one time becoming the Canadian National Coach. Mark regards GM Chong with a great respect born of years of admiration and deep friendship.  During 2002 Mark once again regained contact with Grandmaster Kim Bok Man, who introduced Mark to his new organisation, the World Chun Kuhn Do Federation. GM Kim requested that Mark represent this organisation in the UK and subsequently promoted him to President of the UK Chun Kuhn Do Federation (UKCF).

GM Kim Bok Man is a name associated with Taekwondo from its foundation and is greatly respected throughout the world by masters of many styles. Master Iles and all of Tamar deeply respect this highly revered Grandmaster and are proud to have the honour of fully supporting him. In 2006, in recognition of Mark's dedication and hard work in promoting Chun Kuhn Do, GM Kim promoted Mark to 8th Dan.  Tamar schools first started teaching Taekwondo only, but has diversified and now include Chun Kuhn Do, Kickboxing and Self-Defence; teaching members of the public from ages 5 upwards, to members of local city councils, colleges, and children with social and learning difficulties.  Tamar is also delivering Sport Taekwondo and Self Defence into local schools through the Hampshire Schools Taekwondo Partnership.
